I talk to technology and business leaders every week. And lately, the conversation has shifted from “how do we adopt AI?” to something far more uncomfortable: “We’ve spent a lot of money on AI, and we have nothing to show for it.”

A recent MIT study found that 95% of AI pilot programs failed to generate measurable impact. KPMG found that 59% of companies can’t even quantify what they’ve gotten from AI, despite doubling their spend. Uber burned its entire 2026 AI budget in a single quarter.

• Observability and drift: Models degrade over time. Without proper monitoring, evaluation frameworks, and retraining pipelines in place, you won’t know it’s happening until the business impact is already visible.

These aren’t edge cases. They’re the reasons pilots stall and budgets disappear.
